How to get Results from Joy and Trust

Mel LarsenArticle

As a child, I went to some pretty strict schools. I remember one that had a giant chain in the playground that separated the boys from the girls! Why it was there I have no idea, but that was just one of the many rules we had to obey. I love learning and I’m grateful for the gift of education but as an adult, I’ve come to realise there is more than one way to learn and grow.

Why am I telling you this? Well today while cleaning my teeth, I realized that the dream life I designed many years ago is actually coming true. What’s interesting is that it’s coming true in several ways, firstly it’s coming true in the sense of actual, measurable results – yippee!

Secondly, it’s happening with a lot of ease.

I had to ask myself what’s changed? What am I doing differently? Some of the results are the fruits of seeds I had sowed years ago, sometimes decades ago – at times when I didn’t even believe a particular result was possible. So past actions have helped of course. But also a big factor is thinking and taking action from a place of inner joy and trust.

What does it mean to think and act with Joy and Trust?

Well, I’ve been trusting that everything will work out much more lately. Even when things go wrong, I come back to that belief. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve still been taking the actions but I’ve been also feeling more relaxed and less attached to having to get a certain result. I trust myself and I trust life. I trust that I will attract the right clients.

I’ve experienced and noticed that there is a difference between getting results from an approach that is trying to avoid scarcity and failure and from an approach that is about following a dream and a sense of joy. Avoiding scarcity and failure can sometimes mean gritting teeth, hard work and a feeling of desperation.

The approach that says you will lose out in some way if you don’t get a certain result can actually be useful up to a point, (for me this approach can work as long as the losing out doesn’t turn into punishment). I do use this ‘lose out’ method on myself to overcome fear at times, for example.

However, I am finding that working from a sense of trust, relaxation and giving service really yields much better results and the journey is more enjoyable too.

Getting into the flow of Joy and Trust – Try this out…

  1. Dream Big then take steady steps and don’t worry how fast or slow things are happening. Set big goals within a timescale and then focus on taking small steps every day. Focus on the moment. If you are on a sales call, make that call the most important call of your life and theirs. Be in the moment, enjoy the moment instead of thinking ahead to your targets.
  2. Be honest about what you really want to spend your time on. For example, are you procrastinating because deep down you hate what you are doing? If yes, hire someone else to do the bits you hate or better yet, start a business you actually love. If it’s success you fear then get in touch with your dreams again and shift your mindset. A coach can help you with this.
  3. Enjoy yourself! It does sound like a self-development cliché but being happy in yourself is attractive to others. Putting your dreams on hold drains your energy and your attraction vibe. Even if you can’t make a big change today introduce your passions back into your life. If you want to write, paint or take photos, for example, make time to do those things, don’t put them off.
